Canva is expanding its creative AI toolkit with Canva Craft, the company’s first in-house image generation model. Unlike many image generators that move directly from prompt to output, Canva Craft uses a two-stage architecture that first plans the design and then generates the image.
More control for everyday creators
That planning step is designed to improve precision, consistency, and control—three qualities that matter a lot for people making marketing materials, social posts, brand assets, and polished visual content. Canva says the model can generate images at up to 2K resolution and supports more than 30 aspect ratios.
The launch is especially meaningful because Canva is focused on practical design workflows, not just standalone image generation. By building AI directly into a platform used by creators, teams, educators, and small businesses, Canva Craft could make high-quality visual production faster and more accessible.
- Creative speed: users can generate campaign-ready visuals more quickly.
- Design flexibility: support for many aspect ratios helps with cross-platform content.
- Better consistency: planning before generation may improve reliability for branded work.
With Canva Craft, Canva joins major AI image competitors while bringing a distinctly design-first approach. For millions of users who already rely on Canva, this could turn advanced generative AI into a more intuitive everyday creative tool.
