Canva’s Magic Layers brings real editability to flat and AI-generated images
Canva has introduced Magic Layers, an AI-driven feature that turns static image files and AI-created visuals into layered, fully editable designs. The tool analyzes a flat composition and separates it into individual components — objects, text boxes, and other graphics — so users can select and modify elements while keeping the overall layout intact.
How it works: After a breakthrough from Canva’s AI research team, Magic Layers identifies and segments elements within a single image, reconstructing them inside Canva as editable layers. That means users no longer need to remake a design from scratch when they want to change one part of an AI-generated or flattened file.
Why it matters: Magic Layers speeds iteration and lowers the technical barrier for people who aren’t trained designers.
