Google brings Gemini into Chrome with broad Indian language support
Google has expanded its Gemini integration in Chrome to India, also rolling the feature out in Canada and New Zealand. Crucially for India, Chrome’s Gemini now supports eight widely spoken Indian languages — Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil — enabling millions of users to interact with generative AI in their native tongues.
This localization brings AI assistance directly into the browser people already use every day. Whether it’s summarizing news, drafting messages, researching local topics, or helping with simple translations, Gemini in Chrome can now do those tasks in a user’s preferred language, lowering friction and making web interactions more inclusive.
The practical impact is immediate: students, small businesses, journalists and developers get faster access to language-aware tools without needing separate apps or services. For businesses and creators, the expansion makes it easier to generate localized content and improve user experiences for regional audiences.
The rollout underscores a broader trend of making advanced AI features accessible at scale by focusing on language and regional needs. As more users engage with Gemini in their native languages, expect richer localized features and new opportunities for digital inclusion across India and other multilingual markets.
