Books Become Interactive Knowledge Sources
Google is expanding Gemini Notebook with a new Expert Intelligence feature that lets users bring purchased Google Play Books directly into the AI note-taking app. Instead of passively reading and searching through a title, users can now ask questions about the material and generate useful outputs based on the book’s contents.
The feature is designed to help people turn trusted written knowledge into action. In a demo shared with The Verge, Google showed Gemini Notebook using Michael Pollan’s Food Rules to help generate a recipe book, illustrating how AI can transform a book’s ideas into practical, personalized resources.
Beyond simple Q&A, Gemini Notebook can create plans, infographics, AI podcasts, and other learning materials from supported books. That makes it especially promising for students, professionals, and lifelong learners who want to absorb complex ideas faster and apply them more easily.
