Meta is giving makers a new way to experiment with AI hardware by open sourcing code for building custom Muse AI gadgets. The Muse Gadget SDK allows hobbyists and developers to bring Meta’s AI agent into their own devices using accessible hardware such as ESP32 boards and Raspberry Pis.
The company suggests a range of creative possibilities, from a color E Ink display that shows reminders to an HDMI stick that brings Muse to a larger screen. Builders can also connect Muse to touchscreens, buttons, sensors, actuators, and other components already common on electronics workbenches.
Why this is a win
Open-source AI hardware tools can help move AI beyond phones and laptops into more personal, ambient, and useful everyday devices. By making the SDK available, Meta is lowering the barrier for experimentation and giving independent developers more room to invent new forms of AI interaction.
- More accessible prototyping: Builders can use widely available components instead of waiting for finished consumer devices.
- Creative hardware ideas: Muse can be adapted for reminders, displays, smart home interfaces, and custom companions.
- Community-driven innovation: Open-source tools invite hobbyists and developers to expand what AI gadgets can become.
