Rivian’s in‑car AI assistant begins wide rollout
Rivian has started pushing its AI‑powered voice assistant to compatible vehicles today through a software update. Owners of Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1/R2 models who subscribe to the company’s Connect Plus service (or are in an active trial) will receive the feature, bringing conversational, hands‑free controls and deeper vehicle integration to drivers without a dealer visit.
The assistant is built on Rivian Unified Intelligence, the company’s multi‑modal AI foundation that Rivian has been integrating across its vehicles and services. First unveiled at the company’s AI and Autonomy Day, the system is designed to handle natural language queries and interact with vehicle systems to improve convenience, personalization, and in‑car safety.
Because the feature is delivered over the air, a large portion of Rivian’s fleet can gain new capabilities quickly. The company also indicates the assistant will connect with select third‑party services and devices, extending useful, voice‑driven interactions beyond core vehicle functions.
Why it matters:
- Owners get smarter, safer voice controls without needing to bring their vehicle in for service.
- Deep integration with vehicle systems lets the assistant do more than basic infotainment tasks.
- Over‑the‑air rollout accelerates feature availability and shows how AI can continuously improve vehicles post‑purchase.
