Spotify's new 'Verified by Spotify' badge
Spotify is launching a verification program that places a 'Verified by Spotify' badge — plus a green checkmark — on artist profiles it has confirmed are run by real people. The rollout is intended to make it easier for listeners to distinguish authentic creators from impersonators and spam accounts, addressing a growing concern as AI tools make it easier to mimic voices and artist brands.
The service requires verification standards that artists must meet, and notably excludes AI personas or profiles that primarily upload AI-generated music from eligibility at launch. That policy is designed to reduce fraud and help protect both creators and fans from confusion or potentially malicious impersonation.
The change brings several immediate benefits:
- Clear signals of authenticity help fans trust who they're listening to.
- Reduces visibility and incentives for bad actors who upload fake or spammy content.
- Protects artists’ identities and reputations on a platform with millions of users.
Spotify also acknowledged that the concept of authenticity is evolving and left the door open to future adjustments. For now, the new badge is a practical step toward safer, more trustworthy music discovery — a concrete win for artists and listeners alike.
