Spotify expands AI-powered Prompted Playlists to podcasts
Spotify has rolled out a major extension to its Prompted Playlists feature: the ability to generate playlists made up of podcast episodes. Previously launched as a music-focused beta, Prompted Playlists now accepts text prompts that steer Spotify's recommendation model to assemble a tailored queue of podcast episodes that match a mood, topic, or theme.
The experience mirrors the convenience of a personalized Discover Weekly, but for spoken-word content. Users can type simple phrases like "true-crime episodes about cold cases" or "short business interviews for a commute," and Spotify will curate a set of episodes that fit the request. Right now the feature is in beta and available to Premium listeners in English in the U.S. and Canada.
Why this matters
- Improved discovery: Listeners can find niche or new shows without manually searching or following multiple feeds.
- Personalization at scale: Natural-language prompts let people shape recommendations more precisely than genre filters alone.
- Creator reach: Better matching between listener intent and episode content can surface relevant creators and episodes to engaged audiences.
While still limited in scope, Prompted Playlists for podcasts shows how conversational prompts can reduce friction in content discovery and make audio experiences more responsive to individual interests. As Spotify refines the feature and expands availability, it could become a handy tool for listeners and a meaningful distribution boost for podcasters.
