Substack is introducing a new AI detection feature designed to help readers better understand whether the content they are viewing may have been generated or assisted by AI. The tool can scan posts, notes, replies, and comments, giving users an estimate of how much text could be AI-written.
Powered by the AI detection company Pangram, the feature is rolling out on Substack’s web platform and iOS app, with Android support expected soon. Readers can use it on content longer than 100 words by selecting “Scan for AI text” from the three-dot menu on a post.
Why this matters
As AI-generated writing becomes more common, tools that support transparency can help readers make more informed decisions. For platforms built around independent publishing and direct reader relationships, giving audiences more context can strengthen trust between writers and subscribers.
- More transparency: Readers get clearer signals about possible AI involvement.
- Better trust: Publishers and audiences can navigate AI-assisted content more openly.
- Practical deployment: The feature is being integrated directly into a major publishing platform.
