YouTube makes AI disclosures easier to find
YouTube is updating where it shows AI labels so that viewers actually see them. Rather than hiding the disclosure inside an expandable description, the new label — clearly marked “AI” next to an information icon — will appear directly below the video player, above the description. Shorts will also get more prominent AI signage in the Shorts UI.
Automatic identification is coming. In addition to repositioning labels, YouTube says it will start automatically identifying and labeling AI-generated content across the platform. That moves the burden off viewers and away from relying solely on creators to self-disclose synthetic material.
The switch makes a tangible difference: viewers can more quickly tell when content is AI-assisted or AI-generated, which helps people evaluate credibility and context. Creators and viewers alike benefit from clearer signals about how a video was produced, reducing confusion and lowering the chance that synthetic content is mistaken for original human-made material.
These updates build on Google’s broader AI verification efforts announced at I/O, and mark a practical, user-facing step toward greater transparency on one of the internet’s biggest platforms. For millions of YouTube users, clearer AI labeling means smarter viewing and a more trustworthy content ecosystem.
