Meta says it is making changes to the prompts suggested by its AI chatbot after a viral video showed the system asking invasive personal questions about a user’s young daughters.
In a statement to The Verge, Meta spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby said the company “missed the mark” and added that the feature “never should have prompted the individual with questions like that.”
A step toward safer everyday AI
While the incident raised legitimate privacy concerns, Meta’s response is a constructive signal: user feedback is being used to refine AI behavior and reduce inappropriate or overly personal suggestions.
- Accountability: Meta publicly acknowledged the issue.
- Product improvement: The company says it is changing the prompt suggestions.
- Privacy focus: The case underscores the need for AI systems to avoid sensitive personal probing, especially involving children.
As AI assistants become more deeply embedded in social platforms, these kinds of corrections matter. Better guardrails can help make AI tools more useful, respectful, and trustworthy for the people who use them every day.
