Webtoon brings AI localization to Canvas
Webtoon is updating its Canvas platform for user-uploaded comics with AI-powered localization and new creator tools designed to expand reach and revenue. The translation tool can localize scripts into English, Spanish, French, Indonesian, Thai, Traditional Chinese, and German, letting creators present their work to new language communities without hiring translators up front.
The integrated system pairs automatic translations with improved audience analytics so creators can see where readers are coming from and tailor releases and promotions. By reducing the friction and upfront cost of localization, Webtoon is making it easier for independent artists and small teams to build international followings and monetize across regions.
Webtoon is launching the translation feature in beta, and creators retain control to review and edit AI-produced text before publishing. The company is positioning the tool as an accelerator — not a replacement — for creative workflows, helping creators move faster while preserving the ability to fine-tune tone and cultural nuance.
Overall, the Canvas update is a practical, creator-first use of AI: it opens new audiences, supports smarter decisions with analytics, and helps creators convert broader reach into income. As the beta rolls out, the improvements should make it simpler for comics makers to grow global fanbases and succeed on the platform.
